FAQ

Must I apply and be admitted to MSU before I can register for a course?

Yes, with one major exception: students attending MnSCU schools can register for MSU courses through MnOnline without applying for admission to MSU.

How long does it take to be admitted to MSU?

Every effort is made to admit students as quickly as possible. Our goal is to respond within 24 hours. International student applications, however, take longer to process.

How much does it cost to take online courses as a non-resident student?

Non-resident online students, if categorized as 100% online learners, pay market rate for tuition and fees, which is basically the in-state (resident) rate. 100% online learners (whether an undergraduate or a graduate student) must submit a form to request the lower in-state (resident) rate.

Do place-bound or non-resident distance learners receive preference in registering for online courses?

Policy in the technical communication track is to reserve seats in each section for place-bound or non-resident applicants--students who physically cannot attend the Mankato campus. To ensure a seat in the course, applicants should contact the instructor as soon as possible.

What if the online course that I want to take is full?

Don't despair. Contact the program director, or the instructor for the course as soon as possible. We will make every effert to admit you to the course.

Who teaches the online English courses at MSU?

All upper-division and graduate-level technical communication online courses are taught by faculty or adjuncts with doctorates in technical communication or related fields.

Why do I need to contact my instructor before the first course meeting?

Your instructor needs to know your preferred email address and may provide you with instructions or materials necessary for your first online meeting.

Who can I contact if I still have questions?

Please contact the instructor of the online course, the program director, or the graduate program director.
