Study Abroad

Page address:

Both the university and the English Department offer students the opportunity to study abroad. Our majors can take advantage of the many study abroad programs through the Kearney International Center, some of which allow students to pay the tuition rate of their home institution, thus reducing the study abroad costs.

The Department of English has two partnerships with universities abroad:

  1. Queen’s University, Belfast, NI
Students interested in studying literature, creative writing, film or a combination of these disciplines can study at Queen’s University in Northern Ireland for a semester or a year. Queen’s University was founded in 1810 and it is one of the oldest universities in the United Kingdom. The city campus offers students the opportunity to take advantage of the vibrant arts community in Belfast. Four students from our department will be studying at Queen’s in the fall. Check back for news on their experiences. For more information, contact Prof. Donna R. Casella (literature or film) or Prof. Richard Robbins (creative writing).

  2. Han University, Arnhem, NL
Students in film, creative writing or technical communication may be interested in studying for a semester at the Academy of Communication and Information Technology (ICA) at Han. The university is located in the city of Arnhem, about one hour southeast of Amsterdam. Students can choose from three programs of study:
    1) CAVI: Create Audio and Visuals for Internet – Audio Visual Design and Audio Visual Communication
    2) CRIA: Create a Rich Internet Application – Visual Screen Design, Interaction Design, and Web Technology
    3) GAME: Create a Game – Game Art, Game Play, and Game Development
Watch for Han Workshops every Fall and Spring. You will have the opportunity to meet faculty from Han in these week-long workshops. For more information, contact Prof. Donna R. Casella (film and creative writing students) or Prof. Lee Tesdell (technical communication).

    Film Studies student Bethany Cox
just returned from studying at Han:

“At HAN University in Arnhem, Netherlands, I studied in the CAVI semester (Creating Audio Visuals for Internet). I learned a lot about animation and editing through tutorials online, trial and error, and my classmates. I feel that this experience pushed me past my limits and allowed me to grow as a person, as well as an independent and self-starting student. I am actually planning on moving back to the Netherlands once I graduate in December. I fell in love with the people, culture and way of life. Studying abroad is one of the most life changing experiences I've had in my life, and I would recommend it for anyone!”
