Literature Students and Faculty

Literature & Film at MSU

Our Literature programs are dedicated to students interested in literature, film and writing. Students take courses in British, American, and World literatures from a variety of periods. Those interested in film can combine their core courses with electives in film studies. We offer both a BA and an MA in Literature.

News Bytes:

  • Nickie Kranz (MA Literature) presented her paper "Seduction and Sorcery in Middle English Lyrics" at the Midwest Language and Literature Conference in DeKalb, Illinois on March 1. Nickie is currently writing a thesis on Middle English Lyrics and will be graduating this spring.
  • Lori Shores'  thesis, "Gender Trouble: Social Progress and the Liberation of Identity in Charlotte Perkins Gilman's Herland,"  was this year's College of Arts and Humanities thesis nomineee for the MAGS (Midwest Association of Graduate Students) Outstanding Thesis Award. Lori received her MA in Literature in 2006.
  • Our alums are successfully pursuing graduate degrees or teaching. Lisa Sikking (BA Literature, 2007) is attending graduate school at Washington State University, Pullman and Seth Johnson (MA Literature, 2006) is beginning his doctoral work at Kent State University. Katie Sween (MA Literature, 2006) is working as an associate editor for Coughlin Company in Mankato; she also is an adjunct instructor in our English department. Cindy Enter (MA Literature, 2006) is an adjunct instructor in our department and at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. Erin Goodale (MA English Studies, 2006) has accepted a tenure track position at Bismark State College. Sara Kosiba (MA Literature, 2004) completed her dissertation this year at Kent State University and is starting an assistant professorship at Merrimack College in North Andover, MA. Alex Goudas (MA Literature, 2006) is working in the Learning Support Division at Darton College in Albany, GA as an assistant professor of English. Congratulations to all our graduates.
