Composition Merit Awards Contest

The Composition Merit Awards contest showcases outstanding writing produced in English 100 and 101. First, second, and third place award winners are chosen and receive a cash prize. Additional essays are selected as honorable mentions. Award-winning essays are featured in the Composition Merit Award Journal Online.

Essays that were written for English 100 or 101 during the current academic year are eligible for submission. The submission deadline is March 1st. All submissions received after this deadline will be considered for the following academic year. Any genre of writing is eligible for this award. Students must be enrolled full-time for their work to be considered.

To enter your essay in the Composition Merit Awards contest,

• print out a clean copy of your best English 100 or 101 essay
• fill out and print the Awards Cover Sheet
• submit your essay and the Awards Cover Sheet to the English Department Administrative Assistant, Kate Voight, in Armstrong Hall 230. Alternatively, you may ask your English 100 or 101 teacher to submit your entry for you.
