Award Description
The Jane F. Earley American Literature Scholarship is awarded for excellent student work in American literature, based upon both work completed and the potential of work to come. The 2013 award amount is $2,000.
Eligibility
To qualify for consideration, a candidate must meet all of the following:
- Must be a current major in English (any emphasis)
- Must not have received this award in another year
- Must demonstrate excellent work in American literature as a writer of critical analysis, and as a participant in scholarly events such as class activities and/or conferences
Application Procedure
Candidates must submit the following materials to the English Department:
- Application Letter: In this letter,the student should describe his or her work in American literature, both as a writer of critical analysis and as a participant in scholarly events such as class activities and/or conferences
- Writing Sample: An academic paper of five to ten pages that demonstrates excellent critical analysis of American literature
- Cover Sheet: Candidates must fill out the English Awards cover sheet, including the names and phone numbers of two references who can address the student's qualifications as a writer and as a participant in scholarly events. Open the [PDF] cover sheet (140 KiB).
Applicants may apply for all English awards for which they qualify.
The award recipients will be announced in April.
