Robert C. Wright Award

Award Description

Three awards will be given to undergraduate and graduate students whose writing samples are judged to be the best by a nationally-recognized outside writer. The 2012 award amounts are $800 (first place), $500 (second place), and $400 (third place). The 2013 award amounts are yet to be determined.  Winners will apply prize money toward college expenses in one or more semesters following the award.

Eligibility

To qualify for consideration, a candidate must be a continuing undergraduate or graduate student (enrolled during Spring 2013).

Note: Previous first-place award winners are not eligible

Application Procedure

To apply, a candidate must

  • complete the English Awards [PDF] cover sheet (140 KiB)
  • submit 5-20 pages of imaginative writing, which may include more than one genre
  • include name, address, and phone number on the first page of each manuscript. Please submit typed photocopies only (no originals), stapled in the upper left-hand corner

Applicants may apply for all English awards for which they qualify. For students who apply for multiple awards, the Awards Committee will confer the highest-amount award that a student may be eligible to receive.

Award recipients will be announced in April.
