Marcia Thompson Award

Award Description

The award will be given to an accomplished student pursuing a career in English education. It is intended to recognize the student's commitment to teaching and current accomplishments (e.g. academic, educational, volunteer service) while assisting the student in completing his or her studies in a timely and cost-effective manner. The 2008 award amount has yet to be determined; the 2007 award amount was $450.

Eligibility

To qualify for consideration, a candidate must

• be majoring in English education
• have earned a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

Application Procedure

To apply, a candidate must

• complete the English Awards cover sheet, including the names and contact information for two references who can address the student's academic qualities
• complete an application letter of no more than two pages. In the letter, the candidate must discuss (a) his/her academic and extracurricular achievements and (b) his/her career aspirations and how the award would facilitate reaching them.
• provide an unofficial transcript

Applicants may apply for all English awards for which they qualify. For students who apply for multiple awards, the Awards Committee will confer the highest-amount award that a student may be eligible to receive.

Award recipients will be announced April 4, 2008.
