Award Description

The award is given in alternate years to a student in Music and to a student in English. In 2008 the award will be given to an undergraduate English major who demonstrates financial need and good character. If candidates have equal qualifications, preference is given to a student from a rural area. The 2008 award amount has yet to be determined; the 2007 award amount was $900.

Eligibility

To qualify for consideration, a candidate must

  • be enrolled as a continuing undergraduate English major at MSU
  • be able to demonstrate financial need
  • be able to demonstrate good character

Application Procedure

To apply, a candidate must

  • complete the English Awards cover sheet, including the names and contact information for two references
  • complete an application letter of no more than two pages. In the letter, the candidate must discuss (a) his/her academic performance as an English major, (b) his/her financial need, and (c) his/her activities that demonstrate good character.

Applicants may apply for all English awards for which they qualify. For students who apply for multiple awards, the Awards Committee will confer the highest-amount award that a student may be eligible to receive.

Award recipients will be announced April 4, 2008.
