Writing Scholarship for High School Seniors

Deadline: MUST be postmarked by March 2, 2008

Winners need NOT be English majors or minors

$1,500 Scholarships to Minnesota State University, Mankato for high school seniors intending to enroll in college classes in Fall 2008,  to be awarded in the areas of:

  • Short Fiction
  • Creative Non-Fiction
  • Poetry

The scholarships will be payable in two installments; Fall and Spring semesters 2008-2009, and applied to tuition at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The application package consists of a 5-10 page portfolio of one or more literary works, which will be the basis for selecting the scholarship recipients. Portfolios may feature one or more works in a single creative form (fiction, for example) or they may mix forms, as long as the portfolio does not exceed 10 pages.  No research or academic writing should be included. 

FORMAT OF PORTFOLIOS:  Use 1-inch margins, 12-point Times Roman (or similar) font, with no more than one work per page.  Include a cover page with your name, address and telephone number, and send by either U.S. mail or in electronic format to one of the following addresses.  Beyond this cover page, no letter or application is necessary.
