Outstanding Graduate Student of 2008 Award

Award Description
The award will be given to a peer-nominated graduate student in the last year (which may include the second summer session) of his/her program who has demonstrated outstanding professional activity during his or her graduate career at MSU. The 2008 award amount has yet to be determined; the 2007 award amount was $300.
Eligibility
To qualify for consideration, a candidate must
- be in the last year of his/her graduate program
- demonstrate outstanding professional activity in his/her ability to
- teach effectively or perform effectively in other current assignments (e.g. graduate assistantships, academic achievement)
- perform scholarly or creative achievement or research (e.g.., submissions of scholarly or creative work for publication, presentations of scholarly or creative work, presentations, readings)
- provide service to the department, university or community (e.g., committee service, volunteer experience, extracurricular activites)
Application Procedure
To apply, a candidate must
- be nominated by another student in a written letter of support
- complete the English Awards cover sheet
- provide a curriculum vitae
- complete an application letter of no more than two pages. In the letter, the candidate must discuss (a) his/her academic achievements as a teacher and/or graduate assistant, (b) his/her scholarly research or creative achievement, and (c) his/her service to the department, university, or community.

Applicants may apply for all English awards for which they qualify. For students who apply for multiple awards, the Awards Committee will confer the highest-amount award that a student may be eligible to receive.
Award recipients will be announced April 4, 2008.
